Barnett Freedman (1901 – 1958) was a British artist and designer known for his work in book illustration, lithography, and graphic design. Born in East London to Russian-Jewish parents, he was largely self-taught before studying at the Royal College of Art. He gained prominence for reviving color lithography and illustrated works by Tolstoy, Dickens, and Brontë. Freedman also created designs for publishers and public institutions. During World War II, he served as an official war artist. Elected a Royal Designer for Industry in 1947, he is remembered as a key figure in 20th-century British visual culture.
