Collected Impressions brings together an engaging selection of British and European works on paper spanning more than a century of artistic innovation. From the lyrical figurative studies of the early twentieth century to the bold abstractions and conceptual explorations of the post-war era, the exhibition celebrates the remarkable diversity and enduring appeal of printmaking, drawing, and graphic art.
The exhibition features works by established masters alongside significant contemporary practitioners, highlighting the versatility of paper as a medium for artistic experimentation and expression. Visitors will encounter the elegant draughtsmanship of Sir William Russell Flint, the visionary imagery of David Jones, the sculptural imagination of Henry Moore, and the distinctive portraits of Marie Laurencin. Post-war abstraction is represented through the dynamic compositions of Jean Paul Riopelle and the rigorous geometric investigations of Keith Milow, while Joe Tilson’s richly symbolic prints demonstrate the continuing vitality of British Pop and conceptual art.
Landscape, memory, architecture, portraiture, and abstraction emerge as recurring themes throughout the exhibition. The collection also includes works by Frederick Cuming, George Dannatt, Richard Eurich, Rose Hilton, Wendy Jean Holt, Rachel Nicholson, Jorgo Krallis, Martyn Brewster, and prints after William Holman Hunt and His Majesty King Charles III, illustrating the breadth of approaches that have shaped British and European art across generations.
United by the intimacy and immediacy of works on paper, Collected Impressions offers an opportunity to explore how artists have used printmaking and drawing to record observations, develop ideas, and communicate powerful visual experiences. Together, these works reveal the enduring significance of paper as a site of creativity, innovation, and artistic exchange.
